I deliberately eat junk food every day. It's made me healthier.

150-250 calories worth. That's 5-7% of my total daily intake. Peanut butter M&M's are my go to right now.

Despite this "junk food" habit, I maintain:

→ Top 5% VO2 max for my age
→ Elite strength metrics
→ 13-14% body fat year round
→ Optimal blood markers across the board

After 15 years in the gym and 8 years coaching executives, I've learned something the "clean eating only" crowd won't tell you.

Perfect eating is killing your progress.

Here's the brutal reality: Most high-performers are trapped in a restriction-binge death spiral.

Monday-Friday: Grilled chicken, broccoli, rice. Nothing processed. Nothing "bad."

Saturday morning: You snap.

Entire sleeve of cookies. Pizza. Ice cream. Takeout Chinese food.

Sunday: More binging. More guilt. More promises to "be perfect" starting Monday.

I used to do this every week. And on more than one occasion I was physically sick and then kept on eating.

I lived this cycle for years. It destroyed my progress and my relationship with food.

The solution wasn't more willpower. It was strategic flexibility.

Now I build in those M&Ms daily. That small portion of "junk" keeps me on track 95% of the time instead of perfect 70% of the time.

Simple math:

→ 5-10% planned indulgence = 90-95% adherence
→ 0% planned indulgence = 70% adherence (with brutal binges)

Which gets better results over 12 months?

I've tested this approach with nearly 2,000 clients. The executives who embrace strategic flexibility consistently outperform the "all or nothing" crowd.

Now in the spirit of honesty there is no "1 size fits all". For some people that small amoutn of junk can send them into a daily spiral - Which is even worse of course...

But if you've tried the "I'm never eating sweets, fast food or insert X here" approach and it's not worked yet then this counterintuitive method is something to consider.

Your nutrition doesn't need to be Instagram-perfect. It needs to work during 12-hour days, client dinners, and business travel.
